which school should I choose??

I just wanted to know if anyone would hlp me decide which school I should attend in the fall! I want to study bio/neuroscience and minor in french.

my options are: dickinson, rpi, rutgers, ursinus, and hampshire

Those are some very different schools!

I know nothing about their offerings in bio/neuroscience. But you can and should look at the web sites and see how many faculty there are in the areas you favor, what the faculty qualifications are, and weigh the breadth and depth of the course offerings.

Dickinson and RPI are probably the standouts, but you’ll need to assess the departments since they are very different. Also, in the case of RPI, consider whether they would have sufficient offerings in the humanities should you decide to major in French or another humanities or social science field. Reportedly, Hampshire is rather run down and their finances may not be great. Ursinus is very small, and less selective than Dickinson, so I’d favor the latter. Leaving all other considerations aside, if you are instate for Rutgers and it would mean that you save a lot of $$ compared to the others, I’d seriously consider it.

Visiting your final choices would be a good idea, if you can.

My son is a junior at RPI majoring in Chemical Engineering. When he was home for Spring Break recently he got an email from the school saying that foreign language courses were going to be eliminated. He thought this was ironic since there is currently a strong push by the college to get as many students as possible to participate in study abroad programs. Anyway, here is an article about the issue:

[RPI language programs may be at risk – Page 1 – Times Union - Albany NY](http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?category=&storyID=776926&BCCode=&newsdate=3/6/2009)

So sad!
This is certainly an argument against RPI.

I am so sad to hear about the languages. I am just having a really hard deciding which school because I don’t “love” any of them. I really like RPI but I am worried I will change my mind and it is really cold in New York. haha. In terms of prestige, RPI is the way to go I know but it’s such a hard decision! Is prestige> overall feel? I applied to too many safeties. :(

Can you do overnight visits at some of these schools? Are you on all of their Class of 2013 facebook groups?

I know only the tiny bit of info you have provided. I could not intelligently advise you on what college is best for you.
I am quite surprised you think anyone here knows you and your situation well enough to help you decide on your future. People here are well-meaning, but I recommend you re-think how you select a college.

Younghoss I was just wondering based on what people know about those schools. Would it be better for me to be in a liberal arts environment… or an an environment that is a bit techy… actually very techy. My concern about RPI is that it will be too techy for my taste. and also it’s just nice to hear what people have to say about these colleges. I am so tired of thinking about it all the time and it’s nice to have someone else’s opinion. That’s all.
