Which school should I pick? All help is appreciated! My goal is to work in finance when i’m older. I’m also considering grad school for economics/finance. I’m taking into account mainly education.
UC San Diego - Economics
UC Davis - Economics
Cal Poly SLO - Business Administration
UC Irvine - Economics
UC Santa Barbara - Economics
All are excellent schools. Which school do you feel the most comfortable and are willing to spend the next 4 years? Have you compared the curriculum’s of each school? Are there major differences and/or special emphasis on any area of interest? When my older son was trying to decide between 4 schools, he made a spreadsheet comparing the curriculum of each school and whittled it down to 2 schools. Then we revisted the top 2 choices and he found his best “fit”.
What finance are you referring to? I Investment banking? I saw a list that was posted here and was surprised that UCSD was on that list, didn’t see the rest of the schools mentioned in your post.
@Gumbymom I’ll try that out, thanks!
@DrGoogle Most likely investment banking, and the schools I’m deciding between are UCSD, UCSB, UCD, UCI, and d Cal Poly SLO
Then I’ think UCSD is a better choice. I think somebody on CC posted a list from Poets and quants, not sure I can find it but I’m pretty sure UCSD was on that list.
This is all based on the answer to two questions.
1: What school can you afford?
2: What school’s campus/environment do you like the best?
For pre-PhD study in economics, UCSD and UCI (choosing the high-math course options) have an edge due to higher math content in their intermediate economics courses. In any case, a pre-PhD economics student needs to take substantial advanced math and statistics courses like real analysis, proof-based linear algebra, and calculus-based probability theory.
