I'm not saying Kelley at Indiana is bad. Not at all. It's a top 15 business school (ranked 11-12 in US News) and it is very respected in the business world. However, in other areas Indiana is not strong at all. Despite the fact that its' business school is in the top 15 nationally, Indiana is ranked 72nd overall. If you wanted to go to a better overall school, then I'd say Boston College, Villanova, TCNJ/Indiana (NJ kid should go to TCNJ unless he wants to get out of NJ, and vice versa).

in Allen Iverson voice We're talking about RANKINGS? RANKINGS?

Yes. As much as everyone denies it, we all base our perceptions of a university on rankings!! They do matter!

After all, isn't Kelley well respected because it is ranked the 11th best Business school in the nation? :)

I dont care about that--it's just a good b-school.

what other schools do u suggest i look at?

Lehigh, Wisconsin, UIUC, Wharton :)

Order of difficulty to get into would be BC, Villanova, TCNJ, and Indiana.

The midwestern location is why Indiana is easier to get into (although the difficulty has been going up every year--especially for their business school). The others are all in the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions--which are, along with California, more highly sought after as college locations.

The only real reason that Indiana is ranked somewhat lower in the USNW overall ranking than other top business schools is because they have no Engineering program. Almost all the other top schools (Penn, MIT, Berkeley, Michigan, USC, UNC, Texas, Emory, Virginia, Illinois and Cornell) have top engineering programs also. The state of Indiana decided to put their engineering school at Purdue, and most of the other top programs at Indiana (Bloomington). As a result, these two schools (Purdue and Indiana) are both ranked lower than if the programs had been combined.

P.S. NYU and Georgetown are the other business school exceptions to the above. NYU has no engineering school, but their programs in film, theatre, music, and their NYC location make up for this. Georgetown has a Washington, DC location and strong programs in Foreign Service, Law, Medicine, and the Sciences.

Indiana has plenty of other great majors besides business.
