I want to major in a business area (I found similar majors at both schools for what I want to do), and I'm wondering if I should apply to CAS or Stern, especially when I have a much better chance at getting into CAS. I have a 2020 (1310) on the SATI and a 3.6 GPA, so if Stern is too much of a reach for me, I would rather apply to CAS so I can at least get into NYU at some capacity. Any advice?

As you are a freshman applicant, I would apply to CAS (Economics). You have a better shot at CAS than Stern. You can always internally transfer to Stern as long as you maintain a good GPA.

Stern regular decision becomes hard if your SATs are not in the 14s. Also is your HS GPA 3.6W or UW?

thats a 3.6 UW...and is it tough to transfer internally at NYU?

it is tough to transfer internally, but not impossible with all the good stuff(high gpa, ec's...)

My only caution would be that there is no guarentee that you will be able to transfer. It's certainly possible, but not definite. You ought to keep that in mind - you should work hard no matter your decision, but if you find yourself wanting to transfer, you really can't slack off.

thanks for teh replies!

i understand the issues and difficulties with transferring, so do you think I am too much of a reach for Stern, and I should apply to CAS?...obviously i need to decide tommorow lol so any advice will be greatly appreciated

apply to CAS those SATs are a bit low for Stern and better to get into NYU than be out completely!

Do economics at CAS and a prebusiness minor. And take your 16 credits that you can take at any school within NYU at Stern instead of like, Steinhardt. You can always get your MBA at Stern if you really want.

thank you so much for the replies everyone

last question i promise :)

do you think that NYU CAS is worth all that money? its probably the most expensive school on my list, but is it worth it im not going to Stern? also, is CAS good for law school later on?

thanks again...i hope im not being annoying but I gotta make these decisions like today lol

that's basically the question I was (and am) struggling with. But for me, it's the same price as all of the other schools, so it really doesn't matter in that respect...

I do think it's worth the money. My majors however would be Econ-Math and Philosophy. With highly ranked Economics and Mathematics programs and arguably the best philosophy program in the nation, it's clearly still worth the money.

yeah i just realized that nyu is ranked top 10 for my majors (economics and international relations) so i guess thats very good for me too.
