Which School?

Hey guys I play hockey and plan on playing varsity ice hockey in college. I am majoring in civil engineering and have the option of going to: Wentworth Institute of Technology(Div III NCAA), Iowa State (Club Hockey, one step lower than Div III) and University of Alabama-Huntsville (Div I NCAA) and possibly University of Vermont (Div I). I am most concerned about my education over the competitiveness of the hockey, and the money is not really a problem. Could you guys tell me more about these schools? I haven't visited any of them. Right now I'm leaning towards WIT

Don’t go to wentworth, go to iowa state!!!

Any reasons why?? Iowa state would most likely be my last choice but am unsure of the other ones

also, I’m from Canada, my SAT is 1790(750 math 520 CR 520 W) and my GPA is ~ 2.70

Iowa State is probably the best school you are considering, at least for engineering. It may be in Iowa, but it draws a lot of non-Iowa residents because of its strong engineering program. They are a great school for research, perhaps most notably the Ames National Laboratory which is recognized for participation in the Manhattan project.

Wentworth is in an urban area, pretty close to Northeastern and it wasn’t the best of areas crimewise. I did some programming work for them about 20 years ago and knew a few people that had graduated from WIT. I always got the feeling that it was a notch down from many of the other engineering schools in the area. The experience will be quite different from the University of Vermont. I don’t know anything about the University of Ohio.

Hockey is a popular sport in Northern New England and in the Boston area. Boston University, Boston College, Northeastern University and Harvard University have an annual tournament called The Beanpot. Boston College doesn’t have an engineering program. BU has a good engineering program but you’d probably need to improve your reading and writing scores to get in. It’s also expensive.

You might consider the University of New Hampshire if you’d prefer to go to school away from the city.

Most of those D1 schools are out of my range, I only have good interest from mostly D3 schools and can pretty much go to any one. Which D3 schools are known for having good engineering programs?
