Cal = Berkeley. =)

I know a lot of people that turned down Berkeley for LA (including myself =p).

Along with that:

USCD
UCI
USC

turned down ucb, ucsd, ucd (regents), uci, cornell and harvey mudd

I decline to accept the offers from:
UC Irvine
UC San Diego
UC Santa Cruz
UC Riverside
(I apply to UCLA and these four UC schools only!)

"turned down ucb, ucsd, ucd (regents), uci, cornell and harvey mudd"

jenaboo, why did you turn down harvey mudd for ucla? Everyone I know who applied to harvey mudd wants to go there very badly, and all of them got into ucla (second or third choice). I don't know anything about the school though. I just wished my buddy luck because he's trying to transfer there [harvey mudd], but decisions don't come out until the May 15th.

turned down
usc, uci (regents), ucd, ucsd

Chose UCLA over UCSB, UCSD, UCI (all 3 with Regents scholarships) and USC, LMU, Pepperdine (all with scholarships)

case western, usc, uo full ride, and nyu

I turned down USC Thornton School of Music, Pepperdine, New England Conservatory, and Manhattan School of Music.

I can't speak for jenaboo but I know my son was offered an opportunity for a full scholarship to Harvey Mudd, but decided against applying because it's very small (freshman class of about 700), it only has technological majors (for other majors you have to apply to the different Claremont McKenna colleges), and has a reputation of being very "nerdy" and having a very tough workload. Plus the fact that for a master's you don't have the option of continuing there since they only go up to a bachelor's.

turned down Michigan, Boston College, Villanova, UCs Davis and Santa Barbara

Columbia (my roommate was ****ed about this becuase that was his #1)
Cornell
Penn
Brown
Northwestern
(All of the above gave me 0 financial aid)
UC Berkeley
UC Davis (Regents)
UCSD
UCI

Second year, soon-to-be third year at UCLA and lovin' life. GO BRUINS!

(P.S. Every time I see the Cal band I thank god I'm in the UCLA band instead)

P.S. Forgot Stanford... although their "band" does make me chuckle

02 grad here and proud Bruin alum!

Congrats to all of you for making a GREAT choice! if you are about to start in the fall - get ready for one of the most exciting years or your life!

oh, and back in the day i turned down U Washington and Northwestern for that in state tuition.

Mind if I ask why UCLA over UM? >.< curious...

I picked UCLA over Michigan because:

It's some $15,000 cheaper a year because of in-state tuition.

I won't freeze to death at UCLA.

I know more people already going to UCLA.

UCLA has a great Econ program.

UCLA rules at sports!

I have the opportunity of transferring into Honors eventually.

Ah I see... I'm OOS =( and I have -no- friends either place =P
I'm wondering if UCLA is worth the more expensive OOS tuition fees @.@

I turned down USC, UCI, UCSB, UCSD, SDSU, Santa Clara U, and St. Mary's plus a few others... cuz I looooooove UCLA!

If you're out of state for both schools and tuition isn't a factor, it should not be a surprise that some people pick UCLA over UM. They are similar academically and in ranking. Some people want a college with the socal lifestyle = UCLA. If the student is instate California, then picking UCLA is a nobrainer.
