i am really interested in communication-ey majors like public relations, media management, broadcasting, marketingg and such. at NU i have to apply to a school but i don't know which onE!!! communications studies seems sooo general and the others don't apply!!! and medill seems sooo journalism intensive? what DO I doo?

--- like i would like to do public health related stuff with advertising and broadcasting. i plan to minor in global or publich health.

If you're interested in broadcasting then Medill is the way to go. You can always double-major through Weinberg.

I think the school of communications is more media-related (with majors in film, tv and radio) and medill is more journalistic/writing. I don't know much about either. Either way, you can double major in Weinberg.

dfleish,

One way to get an idea of what they are is to read the description of courses offered in those two schools.

I was just commenting based on what I knew from talking to friends in both schools. I'm not the one with the question, so I don't really care to research it much, but the person who asked it probably should read the course descriptions.

Emblem, I would look into the School of Communications or Medill School of Journalism. You really need to narrow down your scope because your interests intersect both schools. If you want to do marketing and public relations, I strongly recommend Communications. If you want to do broadcasting journalism, I strongly recommend Medill.

oops..sorry, i mixed up the screenames. i was too lazy to scroll up and confirm. i need a 21" monitor so i can see more on one page!

the thing is, tenisgs, that my interests seems to fall under both categoriess but i may be leaning towards communication. the curricilum, howwever, seems so general.

Try, and look at that site for a while. It's about Medill's Integrated Marketing Communications program. While I don't know much about it, I do know they offer advertising and marketing courses (at night) to undergrads.
