cost is at an importance to me.

Columbia's English program is supposedly one of the best. UVA, Pitt, Emory, Boston U, Brandeis, Stanford, etc. all have great programs too.

Iowa and UC Irvine have presitigious programs in the subfield of creative writing, if that's what you like (granted, most of their recognition is at the graduate level, but undergrads can take advantage of the resources as well).

i am also a VERY average student,lol.

every school has a good English major, because PhDs in English are a dime a dozen. They need to teach SOMEWHERE.

I've heard that Kenyon is supposed to be great for English.

tomatoking, which state do you live in? You should probably just go to the best state university that you can.

An average student would still have a good chance at Pitt, Iowa, Boston U, and possibly Brandeis and UC Irvine.

Middlebury has a great English program.

Oxford University in the UK (best in the world for English).

Tomatoking, which state do you hail from, and how "average" are you exactly (unweighed GPA, AP classes, class rank, SAT/ACT etc...)?
