Which schools require pre-screening DVD's?

My dd friend recorded her prescreen video. One friend played piano while another used his video camera that had good sound quality and they did it in a virtually empty room that the piano was in at their house. We have also made audition recordings with taped music in our family room against a white wall. Both came out well. They do not care if the video is professional, it just has to have a clear picture and good sound. It’s what you DO on the video that matters not how fancy it is. A good slate is very important as it is at any audition. DD has taught mini classes at her old high school drama class on how to do a proper slate. Practice in front of a mirror until you get it perfect. As for dd, she got accepted at every school she did a prescreen for and she got the job she auditioned for using those home videos. Good Luck.

Exactly, chaningmt!

The video tutorial is about how to make the best home video, not about making a professional video - it is more about the technical aspects like balancing sound, improving natural light, etc. It is has great tips for those who are not tech/video savvy.

Since it’s free, why not take a look?..

Illinois Wesleyan requires that most students send in prescreens. They have a few exceptions listed on their website though, such such as if you were recruited from an off-campus audition.

My son will be entering Ithaca College as a MT major. Ithaca did not have a pre-screening in the past, but I recently heard that they are considering doing so this year (2013-14).

Great thread thank you! I’m glad I read it because I was just stressing over the cost of a professional video. Two of S friends are Juniors at Penn State they both agreed it doesn’t need to be professional. S is up to three pre screens.

^MTMajorCook, are they all through Acceptd, or are they submitted differently? Just curious about how ubiquitous the Acceptd platform has become.

Ithaca is via Decision Desk.

Shenandoah is Decision Desk. Nebraska Wesleyan, Coastal Carolina and Pace use Acceptd. They all have links to the prescreen upload on their individual website pages.

University of MI is Decision Desk too. Penn State is Acceptd

He used Acceptd for his audition to CCM summer program.

And FYI, Ithaca added a dance audition to their new prescreen…they did not have a dance audition last year.

Add University of Central Florida to the above list. They are going to allow one date in January as an open call (no prescreen) the other dates in Feb. are prescreen only. They are through acceptd, so the info is all there. The prescreen is new for their program this year.

This is from Tara Snyder, UCF Assistant Professor- MT Voice Specialist:

The UCF MT program’s open audition day (i.e. no pre-screening) is Saturday, January 18th. Appointments for this day are on a first come, first- served basis and must be requested no later than November 2nd. However, our preferred method for students to submit a pre-screen video via Acceptd. We will start accepting the required materials as outlined on the site on September 15th. Students receiving callbacks will be notified throughout the fall term up through the final deadline of January 15th. Callbacks will be available on February 1st and February 22nd on our main campus.
