I'm applying to MIT and Caltech, and I think I have a "fair" chance at getting into at least one. I'm also applying to some state schools that are decent at engineering (Berkley, Michigan, Illinois).

What other private schools should I apply to? Are Cornell, Carnegie Mellon and Duke good choices?

Yes … those are all good schools for engineering, especially if you want a more balanced environment (along with non-tech types). Others to consider are Stanford, Rice and Johns Hopkins.

Also consider some of the smaller lesser known, but still great top notch engineering schools. Olin, Harvey Mudd, Cooper Union… see if these are a good fit for you.

Well, it depends on what type of engineering. Duke only has 4 (or is it 5) eng. majors.
Looking at your past posts, Duke does not have Chem Eng. just so you know.

Edit: Duke Eng- bme, civil/envi., electric & comp, mech. eng, and management.
