would i have a good chance at CSU's? i am sort of all over the place.
Middle Class. Will apply for financial aid.

Please tell me any specific colleges i have a good chance for.
Am I a lost cause? community college is not an option.
thank you for your time!

Is your SAT out of 2400? or are you using the math/verbal scoring method out of 1600?

It’s out of 2400…

I’m not even trolling when I say that without getting your SAT up, you could only get into community college… Or test-optional schools.

I think as long as you took the ACT and scored decently, you’ll be ok as long as schools don’t see your not amazing SAT score.
That being said, with the assumption that your ACT or SAT retake is above average I think you have a shot at almost any CSU and Hawaii Pacific University. I know little about the other schools, but I think your SAT test score is the only thing that’s standing in your way.

Could you chance me as well ?

No love for the average student? Thanks for the input though. Any other thoughts or Helpful advice?

Bummmppppppp

^thanks ahaha I second the bump

Average? That SAT is farrrr from average. In the bad way, ahah.

The only thing I suggest you can work on at this point is your SAT/ACT and your writing, as well as attain recommendations. Have you gained access to any of the applications and their requirements?

I applied to schools from all over the country, and while I received great marks on my writing, my SAT score was what I believe hurt me in the end. My score was laughable and mediocre compared to those of other applicants. I applied to some top schools, and believing that I might be the exception, I procrastinated and never sat down to study, not even for one minute. I took a class with the Princeton Review, and unfortunately, I didn’t take advantage of it. IT WAS FREE. I realize my stupid mistake, and although I may look like a fool for it, it would be a shame to see someone else do the same in regards to preparing for the SAT. For you, it’s relatively early so you DO HAVE a chance to increase that SAT score, as well as write some essays. Start now, because if you don’t you might regret it later.

Remember that some schools award scholarships based on SAT scores, so that’s another incentive as to why you should try to get a higher score.

To answer your question, apply to schools that have programs that deal with what you intend in pursuing, as well as schools you might get in. Aim high, whilst having some back ups.

I wish you the best of luck!

^ thank you for the well thought out reply. Reading around and looking at the other applicants has really gotten me worried. I feel like I have NO chance anywhere, which is sort of depressing. But I am determined to bring up my scores, hopefully i can get into at least 1 UC? Also I know American University and Pitzer college are test optional, would I have any chance at them? Kind of feeling a little lost right now.

I understand why one would worry over this since it’s basically four years of your life spent at an institution you worked so hard to get into.

Believe me, you HAVE a chance. It’s up to you to maximize it by what you put in.

Work hard!!! TBH, I really regret not studying for the SAT because my college counselor told me that it is VERY important, unfortunately. I have a friend who got accepted into Harvard, Dartmouth, and Stanford with a 2200. The guy was also a great writer, always reading “heavy” books such as Anthem and such, and I believe it was his reading that helped him with his writing.

Even though I am going to one of the best universities in the world, I do feel a tint of regret when I see my application essays and wonder what it would’ve been like if I studied for the SAT.

And as for those college, I’m not too sure. One site you can go to is College P R O W L E R which gives you acceptance rates and information about the college, brief information that is.

I’m sure you can get into one UC if you do what you need to do.

Also, don’t look at other applicants’ information. Worrying because of THEIR stats is completely futile and it doesn’t help but cause worry, which isn’t a pretty flower. It’s completely arbitrary the way colleges select students for the new incoming class, so anything goes in the admissions process.

Best of luck and tell me how it goes!!!

UPDATE:
I got 1320 on the October SAT
I’m the treasurer for the animal club at my school.
I think I will test again in December…

Have you been studying for the SAT, ahah?

Well I didn’t study very much for this one… Although I increased by 50 points. Ahah

UPDATE: accepted to humboldt state and northern Arizona university. I ended first semester of senior year with a 4.0

Any improvement on the SAT score?

Sent from my SPH-D710 using CC

Good luck to you chips! My daughter was admitted to Humbolt as well some other CSs. Did you visit? we did. The science programs seem very strong. Every class we observed on our tour looked interesting. Students involved in some type of hands on activity: seismic mapping, dissecting dead birds. Observed one big lecture 60+, 80% of the kids seemed to be paying attention–a few face-bookers, on-line shoppers. The downside was…how do I put this…I think our tour guide was high. And the weather!! the campus smelt like wet dog. Did not visit the dorms. I think if you are in science type major, it’s a good school. The drive is up from SoCal is horrendous. The price is right.
I wanted D to apply to northern Az because of the western states tution discount. She did not apply and we did not visit (Applied to UA and nice privates and is in with merit $$) I can’t supply any first hand info on No Az. I would suggest that you gas-up @ 4.09 per gallon and go for a road trip.

UPDATE: accepted to UC Merced and Cal State Monterey Bay
I was really worried about being accepted to ANY UC’s.

Anyways: ^thank you for the response! I really appreciate it. Humboldt is definitely one if the top cal states that I’m interested in, I got in for Zoology which is a big plus to me. I do plan on visiting for the spring preview they have in April!
For Merced I got in with the Biological science major

Chips, congrats on the UC “in”. Seems like your have a few strong choices. Let us know where you end up and why. I think allot of high school seniors are in your boat. Between you and me I think that the SAT college board is a big scam. (Remember the children’s story Emperor’s New Clothes?) Good luck!
