Which schools to apply to?

I posted something like this before, and I narrowed down my list of schools, but then I found new schools that I enjoyed too. Here are the schools I am interested in:

Reaches:
Taft
Groton
Lawrenceville
Deerfield
St Paul's
Middlesex

Average:
Blair
Berkshire

Safeties:
Williston Northampton
Masters Schools

Here is some information about me: (copied and pasted from my previous post)

I love to dance. I dance 6 days per week (a total of 15 or so hours) and I am on a competition team. I also love singing, and am a leading soloist in my school chorus. Another passion of mine is fashion design, and I play the guitar and compose music. I also take photography classes and I am planning on including my portfolio in my application.

For academics, my favorite subjects are Latin (I love languages - I'm half Ecuadorian, so I've been speaking both English and Spanish my whole life, and languages come naturally to me), English (writing is one of my huge passions, and I have won several writing competition throughout my life), and Math, which just runs in my family.

Dancing is my main sport, however I also play softball and am going to do field hockey and tennis in the next school year. Athletics are not my strong point, but I am interested in changing that, since they've always fascinated me.

With these as my interests, which of the schools listed above would you most suggest for me? If you currently attend one of them, or have attended it, can you to tell me your thoughts, the schools strong points, etc.?

Thanks so much!

Bump…

Talk about grades. Then we can help.

I get straight As on my report cards, sometimes a B. My test averages are:
Language Arts - 99%
Science - 96%
Math - 92%
Social Studies - 97%
Latin - 94%

Is this for boarding school admission? You have great credentials but I don’t know much about the schools you listed…

@ballernia22,
What grade are you applying for? And as for “matching” you with a school on your list, your interests sound like you’d do really well at Middlesex and St. Paul’s. Good luck!

I’m applying for 9th grade. Also, I just thought you guys should know that it would be ideal for me that the schools I apply to have good nearby towns. Thanks a lot!

@ballerina22,
Middlesex is close to Concord and fairly close to Boston. I live really near to Concord, and to be honest, it’s a nice little New England town, but it’s not that great if you’re the kind of person who wants to be surrounded by 20 theaters. On the other hand, Boston, is IMO the best city in the country.

Deerfield is close to Greenfield (I think), but there isn’t much there. When I toured Deerfield, my tour guide told me that kids hardly ever go into town. He said that kids go into town maybe once every 2-3 months, so Deerfield might not meet your criteria.

I live near Groton as well. Groton Mass. is REALLY boring. IMO it doesn’t even have the “classic New England town” appeal that Middlesex has. You should visit and see what you think, but if the town is a big thing for you, Groton might not be a good choice. It’s also pretty far away from Boston.

St. Paul’s is close to Concord, but Concord isn’t exactly a “town.” It’s the capital of New Hampshire. The area immediately surrounding St. Paul’s doesn’t look that cool to walk around, if I remember correctly. It’s near a hospital, and a gas station, and fairly close to Concord High School. Also, there are a lot of farms nearby.

Another school you should look at is Kent School in Kent, CT. They’re supposedly near a really nice town, though I haven’t visited, so I don’t know if this is true. Good luck, and if you have any questions, send me a PM.

Groton isn’t that boring… I’ve lived in cities all my life and while it’s clearly a small town, you can always walk to CVS or go to Johnsons to get ice-cream and a burger or something. You can catch the train to Boston from Ayer once you’re in 10th grade and it’s less than an hour drive to Boston. Not that the town really matters, BS is pretty insulating and you’ll probably find you don’t have much time to go to town anyway! Groton has a great dance program too. I have to go but feel free to PM me.

I know this was not on your list and I already made one unhelpful post so I wont burden you with too many more…lol. but have you thought about SAB and the professional children’s school? Top notch academics AND dance.

Also, Groton has a strong classics program. In Latin 1 we covered all the way through the subjunctive and the passive voice too which I’ve heard from my other friends is a lot quicker than normal. Through Latin 2 is compulsory along with a modern language as well.

@drumwriter22 - I’m not a ballet dancer, therefore I wouldn’t even have a chance of getting accepted into SAB, which is one of the most elite ballet companies in the world. I do take ballet, but I’m more of a contemporary/jazz dancer.

@blueraven1 - The town doesn’t matter to me THAT much - I’m already in love with Groton!

@BlueRaven1 - the first time you’ve ever complimented latin… XD

the town of Groton is small, and not really worth going off campus for. It’s part of the bubble effect. You kind of feel like groton school is the only place that exists sometimes… but it’s also great. it makes you feel really close to everyone around you.

nerdgeekdork - is that the same at a lot of schools? Or is it unique to Groton?
