i scored a 2050 on the old sat and a 1400 on the new sat. have i improved?? which one is better? i want to major in economics so which university do you guys think is a safe option and which are within my reach? are the ivies totally out of question??? really appreciate a reply
According to the concordance tables (see link below) a 1400 NEW is equal to 1990 OLD. So they are close, but your OLD 2050 looks to be a bit better. (2050 OLD ~ 1440 NEW).

But my percentile is better in the new one…and do I have any chance for the ivies?
The scores are really close, so it might be best to go with the one with a higher subscore that corresponds to your intended major (for instance, if you planning on going into a STEM field you’ll want a better math score). Ivies will be a high reach with these scores, especially with the higher competition as an international student. You’re a good match for UC Berkeley, UIUC, and Northwestern (all of which have great econ departments), as well as many other excellent schools. For low matches/safeties, a lot of LAC’s tend to have very good econ departments, as well as schools like UC Irvine and UW Madison. Here’s a huge thread on undergrad econ programs, with a ton of good information: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/business-major/137062-best-undergraduate-economics-program-p1.html
