So I just got SAT scores back and I got a 1390 (this is new the new SAT). I took the ACT a while back and got a 31. From what I understand, these are about the same but I’m not sure? Can anyone confirm this or is one of the scores better than the other?
Ok never mind, according to College Board, a 1390 is equivalent to a 30, so I did slightly better on the ACT. I do have another question though, I did much better on the math section of the SAT than on the ACT but I did much better on the read and writing section of the ACT than the SAT. I’m looking to major in applied mathematics or mechanical engineering. Would it be better to send the test with the better math score or is overall score more important?
You also have the option to send both, especially since your scores are close and the section scores are varied. You could retake the ACT and focus on the math & science section. Super scoring could really help you out.
@HPhelpbot123 Oh yeah, that’s a good idea! I heard colleges usually don’t superscore the ACT though
@4kidsdad Yeah unfortunately only 2 schools I’m applying to is on that list and they’re schools I’m not really worried about not getting in
Do you guys think it would be better for me to retake the SAT and focus more on the reading section? Because I also like the essay portion of the SAT much better than the ACT essay, which I didn’t do so hot on for some reason
It’s my understanding that as long as you don’t bomb the essay, they don’t care too much about it. I always thought that that entire ACT was much easier, especially to improve the individual scores. (My math went up 4 points & reading 1 point.)
@HPhelpbot123 That’s just the problem though, I think I completely bombed it and I don’t know why. I thought I did really well but I only got a 25 which is horrible compared to everything else!
A 25 for the essay?
Yes
For me (I took it twice) the first time i took sat i focused on math, second time i focused on writing and reading (I took old sat)
That’s my recommendation
