Which score to submit? ACT or SAT

In applying to UC’s for mechanical engineering which score would I better off submitting given that my SAT score places me in a higher percentile of accepted students than my ACT score, but with a low math score? Should I submit both or just one to both UCD and UCSB?

Sat: 1980
710 R
620 M
650 W

ACT: 28
28M
30R
26 Sci
9 Essay

Your act math score is worth about the same, actually.

(620/800) * 36 = ~28

I don’t see a reason for them to prefer your ACT score, but it may be worth sending both just to be sure.

A 620 math SAT score is 80th percentile while a 28 math ACT score is 91st percentile.

The SAT composite is a little better than the ACT composite. If you send only one then send the SAT. Sending both shouldn’t be a problem.

You don’t think that the low math score will be frowned upon in light of the overall score?

It depends on your major choice. If you are engineering then yes it needs to come up.

I plan on retaking in October. That score was my first time taking the test with no studying, so it should come up.

Using the comparison chart: [SAT-ACT Conversion chart](http://teachers.sduhsd.k12.ca.us/lccounseling/sat-act_conversion_chart.htm)

A 1980 SAT is approximently a 30 on ACT. You only scored a 28 on ACT math subcatagory, so both math scores are lower than your composite scores.

I would submit the SAT score, it is higher overall.
