hey everyone i was just wondering if you could help me out with a question. ive taken the old SAT 3x and will most probably not take the new SAT (applying this fall). Which scores do they take? the highest math score + the highest verbal score, or the highest total score? sorry, i know its a stupid question, but i cant seem to find an answer anywhere.

I've heard Harvard mixes scores.

Most schools we've talked to say they take the highest of each score (no matter which sitting) and then add them to get the composite that they use. Also, there isn't anything clear cut about how they will equate old and new SAT's-- either add the Writing SAT2 score to the old test to get a 2400-based number or take the Writing score out of the "new" number and use it like an SAT2.

yeah as wheezer said most schools mix scores, however some programs at schools and possibly some schools themselves require a certain score at one sitting meaning no mixing. check the college's website, it's probably specified there.

Since this is the first year that college applicants will have the new SAT, college are going to be lienant about their SAT requirements. Many will mix old SAT, new SAT, and old SAT II writing scores to find your best combination. However, like silver said, a select few require single sitting scores on the new SAT (I think the UC's fall in this category)

thanx a lot. thats good news. i have another question though. since I've taken the old SATs 3x, do u think its advisable that I take the new SATs as well. I wouldn't take it now... I'd probably wait till winter... The catch there is that colleges (at least the ones I'm applying to) don't like to see u taking the SAT I more than 3x...

i think it'd be advisable to take the new sats because some colleges may want to see that you have indeed taken it

I have seen some college websites that say they will NOT accept the old SAT for current juniors applying (Carleton for example.)
