Which scores should I use? (Potential retake)

Hello, I have a few quick questions. I took both the ACT and the ACT and am wondering if you guys have any insight as to which scores would better to submit. I took the SAT twice and got a composite score of CR 710 M 740 and W 750 (11 essay). I took the ACT once and got a 32 in English, a 34 in Math, a 36 in Reading, a 35 in science, and a 30 English/Writing (9 essay).

My dilemma is that, overall, my ACT score is better, but my essay score dropped significantly. I was wondering how much of a difference the 11 vs 9 essay makes and also if my ACT scores do, in fact, look better (because the science score doesn't mean much). Also, I scored a 5 in the AP English language test last year, would that compensate for a lower essay score at all (I know that colleges say that APs don't usually factor into admissions...).

Also, another question I have is which section on the ACT corresponds with the SAT CR section. If it is the Reading section (which I think it is because the English section seems more like usage/mechanics questions like the Writing section on the SAT) than would the 36 there but 32 in English look better than the 710 in CR and 750 in W? Overall, it seems like a pretty convoluted question--hopefully it is understandable.

As a side note, the competitive colleges that I am applying to are Cornell, Brown, Tufts, and Wesleyan. (and several safeties)

Thanks for your time!

bump (anyone?)

I’d help you but I have no idea what an ACT is. :(
