Which second major would be better?

I'm currently a sophomore studying Supply Chain Management and I really enjoy the subject and don't have any plans on changing it--my school is also pretty well ranked in SCM which helps but is not the reason why I chose it. However, I entered college with enough credits that adding a second major is a very doable option. Right now my options are Accounting and Economics. I didn't realize I liked accounting until this semester. I find the subject really stimulating and I've been doing really well in my current accounting course and I just really enjoy it. I also really like Econ and it was originally my major before I switched to SCM. However, my interest in Econ is more of a "oh, that's interesting...tell me more" than a "hmmm, what job can I get with this?" kind of interest if you get what I mean. I like both, but I don't know which would be a better option for me and, furthermore, which would be a good compliment to my SCM major. One of my professors told me that a student she had who graduated last year with dual SCM/Accounting degrees had multiple job offers upon graduation, but I still really think Econ would also be a great compliment. I have a good gpa (3.8+), but I don't want to pigeon hole myself with an accounting degree (if that's even possible). Any suggestions?

I would have thought that both are excellent choices to sit alongside the SCM. I’d err towards the economics if you enjoy studying it for the sake of it. It will give you a more general education than accounting but would also open up more business areas to you in the future if you want to grow from a pure SCM role. And would be good preparation for an MBA. However, every firm needs an accountant…
