I know that some engineering schools (e.g, Georgia Tech) only use the Math, English, and Writing sections from the ACT, but what sections do schools like NYU, BC, BU weigh more on. I know I can "check each school," but I couldn't find anything. What do you guys think, in general?

I think that typically schools care more about the math+ english scores than the writing score.

Common Data Set, section C9. It shows what they use in admission. For NYU it is ACT Composite. <a href=“Research with Human Subjects”>Research with Human Subjects; Also some schools will put on their web site what ACT scores they will use.

does that mean that they don’t look at the subscores?

they do look at subscores… but I do not think schools will take a score of equal composite but higher math/lower english over one with higher reading/lower science, for example.

Unless the discrepancy between the composite and any one subscore is great (32 composite and 25 reading for example).

That would really depend on the college. I’ve seen some explicitly state they only look at the composite score. I usually think they would publish the subscores in the CDS if they cared about them but there is no direction to do some from the Dept of Ed so it’s left up to the colleges.
