Which should I choose?

Hi everybody,

So I have been admitted to both University of Toronto and the University of Pittsburgh for Fall 2015. For UofT I have an offer for Life Sciences. I am conflicted on which one to choose. I am not a Pennsylvania resident nor a Canadian Citizen, and for either one the finances will be worked out. Which would be better for job/grad/med school prospects? Is the grade deflation at UofT as bad as I have heard? I sent in a deposit to University of Pittsburgh yesterday evening, but since then i have just been at a loss. The money for the deposit again doesn’t matter, and thus it wouldn’t matter if I changed my mind. Thank you in advance!

My son got into both schools (as well as 8 others) for Fall 2015 as well. He is NOT interested in medicine. If he were, I would encourage him strongly to head for Pitt over U of T. The opportunities for you at Pitt in undergrad are fantastic and will prepare you well for grad school and a career. Toronto has a big reputation because it is a huge university with a great reputation in research (primarily for grad students), but I find that high school kids from the US who want to go there are more enticed by the cultural diversity and cosmopolitan aspects of the city. It’s important to stay focused on where you will be successful academically first, and grade deflation at U of T is real and possibly destabilizing to a kid who went to hs in the US.
