Hello my all knowing, omniscient college confidential forum,
I’m going to have to pick which college im going to go to and its a tie between Bentley University, Seton Hall, and University of Washington Seattle. Please help me settle it. I live in Hawaii and Im Asian and I plan to major in Finance.
Seton Hall:
-Cost:130k
-Stillman School of Business Direct Admit
-Seton Hall Law Direct Admit
-Honors Program Admit
-Stillman Leadership (waiting on decision)
-Dual BS/MBA plan
Bentley:
-Cost:160k
UW
-Cost:200k
I know it seems like Seton Hall should be the obvious choice but I like UW because of both the post grad salary avg and my friends will be there. I like Bentley because of the atmosphere of Boston and Waltham and because of the top notch business program and post grad salary.
Please Help Me
Thank You
@alexwalex congratulations on great choices…but we need some more information!
– will any of these options require LOANS? If so, what is estimated total loan amount?
– Seton Hall’s $130K cost…four years? What is your est cost for the full number of years you’ll need to take advantage of the Dual BS/MBA plan-- if it’s 130K then I’m liking Seton Hall even more
– where do you want to wind up working? If it’s in the greater NY/NJ/Phil metro areas, then go with Seton Hall
But if it’s the US Northwest, then UW might work better if you can swing that 200K without loans.
– do you care about the presence of Asian students? Is this something that might make a difference to you? I’m sure they all have stats on this. Related: are there clubs and activities at these schools that are the kind you would want to join right away? this might make up for the fact that you won’t know people at Seton Hall or Bentley…
And a few thoughts:
– don’t put too much weight on post-grad salary stat. All three of these schools have graduates who are doing very very well…and probably some who aren’t-- it’s about the individuals, not the school
– money aside, all of these are good programs that could set you up well. They are REALLY different in terms of atmosphere and location; you’ll have to weigh that on your own. None of them are at all like Hawaii!
Agree re post grad salary. Your salary will be a result of your hard work. Go on a few student review sites like niche and Uni go. Figure out which school has your vibe. Good luck, you have great choices. P.s., I wouldn’t consider where your friends are going. Your friendships are going to change in college.
Thank you very much for your input. I will have to take out loans for any and all of the colleges I would go to. I do not know how much at the moment. I do not know how much it would be for my five year BS/MBA but 130k would be my four year cost to attend Seton Hall.
You, yourself, cannot take out anywhere close to $130K of loans, much less $200K. Your parent(s) will need to take out these loans, as you are limited to $5,500 the first year, etc.
Is your family willing/able to take on that much debt for your education?
Once your sort that out, you can advance to the other elements of the decision.
Good luck!
