my dad just brought him bunch of "first class" stamps (i guess they'r 42's?????)...i know for the general envelope to be sent from the guidance, it'll be 5 42's. but what about teacher's rec letter? i will be using the big yellow-brownish manila envelopes...probably with 3-4 papers inside (1-2 page rec letter, 2 page teacher evaluation from commonapp.org). how many stamps should i put on it?

Um... I used big white envelopes (9x12) and sent my stuff from the post office... it ended up costing me $1.17. But that was... around 10 pages. So 3-4pgs would probably be something like 2 stamps?

do you remember how many ounces it was? i think it also depends on where ur sending it from and where ur sending it to. lol. guidance can never give me a straightforward answer.

If you're using a normal business-sized envelope, it should be 1-2 stamps depending on how much "stuff" you have in there. I think I only neede 1 stamp for 3 sheets of paper. For larger envelopes, you'll probably need twice as many.

so 3 42's would probably be enough for those big (12x9) manila envelopes?

^I'm gonna say yes. I have no idea how many ounces my stuff ended up being... they just gave the price.

okay thanks Savs!

I brought in some of those big manilla (9x12) envelopes with about 5 sheets of paper in them. The post office said that because they are "flats" they cost more to send - $1.00.
If I had been able to fit the stuff in a regular business-sized envelope it would have been only 59 cents. So you are fine with 3 42 cent stamps, but only probably need $1.

Good luck on your applications!

Just bring the envelope to the post office and they'll tell you exactly how much you need without any guesswork. Good luck!

thanks guys for all ur inputs! good luck on ur apps (if ur doing one lol) too!
