Which State gives you the best chances? Im from montana and everybody keeps telling me how much easier it will be to get in to college becuase Im from here. So my question is which state helps you the mosty in the game of admissions?

Worst are places like California, Texas, New York, New Jersey, and Illinois.

Best are probably Montana, Hawaii, Alaska, North/South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, West Virginia, and South Carolina.

Basically, the worst are the ones with the higher populations and the best are the ones with lower population.

depends where you're applying. For UC"s, obviously you'd want CA. Cornell has a high percentage of new yorkers for some reason. But, the above posts are right, colleges want academic/social/ and to some extent, geographical variety.

Montana, Idaho, somewhere remote.

Nevada, possibly because so few students go OOS and so few students actually graduate HS, but some universities know that NV students go to college need to take high remedial classes so maybe not...

Look at the National Merit cutoffs for a general (although obviously not perfect) idea. Massachusetts and Maryland have the highest cutoffs, then New Jersey, California, New York, etc. The northeast tends to be really bad...

The reverse is basically true for the best places, like Hawaii, Mississippi, etc.

Though, of course it depends somewhat on the location of the college.
