i was wondering which state ( minnesota or wisconsin) is better? i like to go out and have fun but i also like to work hard in school and what ever job i have. is there one thats better for watching sports, girls, best bars, snowboarding, nicest people, safer, etc...?

UW-Madison is the best for all those items. Rose Bowl versus no bowl.

Wisconsin is a beautiful campus and an excellent school.

WI and MN each have over 5 million people, thousands of bars, plenty of spectator sports, etc. There’s no way to compare one to the other on those criteria. You’ll need to get a lot more specific to get any usable information.

However, for an out of state student, Wisconsin’s list price is about $10,000 per year more expensive than Minnesota’s list price.

If you can actually figure out a typical Uminn tuition and fees have at it. Uminn is very creative in nickel and diming you. The gap all in plus dorms is less than you think. Also expect UMinn to go higher soon. It was a loss leader to boost OOS interest. They can’t afford it very much longer.

http://onestop.umn.edu/pdf/tuition_ugrad_2011-12.pdf

[Costs and Aid](Cost of Attendance | Office of Admissions) says for an academic year:

OOS tuition = $18,060
Room and board = $7,728
Books and supplies = $1,000
Other = $2,194

Total of the above = $28,982

With which major, health insurance option etc? That might be the minimum. Most majors have surcharges in the $500-$1000 range. If your parents do not insure you that’s another $500 or so.

Which is better? Well…

The fishing in Wisconsin is marginal at best, especially for walleye.

Minnesota still has outstanding walleye fishing, especially in the north.

Wisconsin = College football, Packers, etc…
