Hello all,
I’m looking for a quick bit of advice. I just received my October scores and I got: M1-740, M2-750, P-800.
Since I only need to send two to colleges, (I’m applying to Top 15 schools, eg. Harvard, Stanford) which two do you think I should send? Obviously physics is a no brainer, but I’m having a bit of trouble with which math test to send. I was shocked to see that a 750 in Math II only placed me in the 61st percentile. My 740 in Math I, however, puts me in the 89th percentile.
I know there are differences in the types of students who take the Math I and II tests, but a 61st percentile score sounds low to me any way I look at it. In all the other percentile charts I have been referring to, they typically list a 750 as around the 70th-79th percentile.
For reference, I’m submitting an ACT composite of 35 (E35 M35 R34 S35) and a TOEFL score of 120.
Which scores do you think will put me in the best light?
Thanks!
M2 carries more weight. Not sure the percentiles are well understood by the typical ADCOM member. If you submit a high Physics with Math 1, it begs the question, why not M2?
I suppose that would look strange. I’m leaning toward sending my Math 2 scores, unless someone on here advises otherwise. I wonder if there are any advantages/disadvantages to sending all three.
The problem is that my school is really awful academically. We have very limited math courses and we didn’t even have a physics class until last month. I had to completely self-study the material for both Math 2 and Physics almost from scratch.
When I was studying, I had the impression that physics would be more challenging, so I ended up allocating a disproportionate amount of time toward that area. I regret that now - I know that I am capable of an 800 in Math 2 with enough preparation. But I can’t really convey my situation to colleges (it’s not a good excuse anyway), so I’m in a bit of a huff.
Sorry for ranting…
From what I’ve read and asked on here before, I don’t think percentile matters as much as the actual score. So I say the 750 and 800.
