Which summer program to accept?

S is a h.s. junior, wants to major in engineering, and has been accepted to 2 summer programs. However, the dates conflict, so he must choose between the two programs.

One is a 6 week paid internship at NASA, working with a NASA engineer mentor on a research project. The other is a 3 week program (Engineering Summer Academy) offered by OSU, where he would earn college credit for an engineering honors course.

The Engineering Summer Academy would definately give him a "jump-start" on college, but the NASA opportunity would be a great practical experience.
Any thoughts on which would be more beneficial?

definitely NASA internship. internship is almost always better than taking courses. plus, NASA is a national level agency while OSU is just state. id say NASA internship is better if you consider either credentials or finance.

Nasa .

I'd go with NASA as well. But which does your son want to do?

So many people would kill to intern at NASA. It's a great choice for a future Engineering major. Colleges like to see practical practice, especially when it involves NASA.

if i was in your son's shoe, i would definitely want to do the NASA

NASA. OMG. NASA for sure. No question...

He really wants to do the NASA program. And it certainly sounds like its the best of the two. Thanks for all the input.

So many kids do summer courses at colleges but how many get to intern at NASA?!?! Congrats to your S and hope he has fun with either option he choses.

NASA times a billion!!! not a choice... choose NASA

He made his decision and has accepted the NASA program offer. Thanks for all the replies.
