I was accepted to both Binghamton and University at Buffalo and am torn over which I should choose. For Binghamton, I was admitted direct-entry into the Decker School of Nursing. However, I was accepted into Buffalo’s Honors program which guarantees a seat in the nursing program as well. I also received a scholarship of 5k a year from Buffalo. Which is a better school for nursing, and which is a better choice?
I think that many of your questions are subjective. You can try googling the “which is better nursing program” question, but other than that, you should probably look at the individual schools and weigh what you find against your own criteria.
One thing that I would look at is their employment stats. Also, where do their graduates go to work. Does that make a difference to you? Are there any nursing specialties that interest you? That sort of thing.
And then there is the environment. You may want to visit the schools to see if you like the location and the student body. Maybe one feels overly competitive. Or maybe one feels like everyone is slacking too much. You could also get a feel of the neighborhood. How about housing, does that seem okay to you?
Look at all of those factors and talk with your friends about other issues to look for that are specific for nursing. Okay?
Congratulations on your success! Well done.
Congrats! Both are very good options. Have you visited either?
Thank you both! I visited both campuses. I really liked the feel of Binghamton’s campus, but there isn’t much to do in that area. Buffalo is a city where there’s much more to do, but I wasn’t blown away by the campus. I’m so torn!
Why dont you join each’s FB page and ask some students at each what there is to do vs. campus vibe?
I already have and have friends that go to both schools, I’m more concerned which is better academically for nursing. I know that Bing has an overall better reputation but I’d be in the honors college at UB which has its perks, and would be closer to hospitals and such for clinical.
Frankly, I think Buffalo sounds better for youfor those reasons.
My older son spent 2 years at Binghamton and loved it . They have an excellent internship program. (Finance). My younger son spent 1 year at Buffalo and did not like it as much . His major was Engineering. It is much larger and spread out he had to live on the south campus and take a bus up campus to all his classes and the weather was extreme. If you go to Buffalo send in your housing deposit as early as possible or you may end up on the South Campus in a single room .Buffalo does have a lot more going on then Binghamton and it is just a larger university .
