Which SUNY school has the best political science department? I'm trying to figure out which SUNY school would be the best for me, and this is a big factor for me. I'd also like the college to be at least somewhat selective and be in the southern part of New York.

Binghamton, without a doubt. It’s internationally ranked with excellent professors for both American and international politics.

After that, Albany and Stony Brook are pretty equal as far as I know. Albany puts you in the state capital, but SB is a better school generally.

Where do you get your ranking information from? US News has Binghamton ranked 97 and Stony Brook is ranked 82 in National University Rankings. There is nowhere that I can find that actually ranks undergraduate political science departments. Graduate departments have had rankings done and Stony Brook is one of the highest in the country, but be aware that these rankings are based upon the volume of publishing done by professors and is this really what you want to base your decision on? We too are trying to determine the best Political Science department between the two as our son was accepted to both to be a political science major and it is very close when you carefully look at the actual courses offered. It comes down to what school you want to spend 4 years at and we are working that out now by visiting both schools multiple times and speaking to both the general and departmental counseling teams.
