I live in New York and am considering some of the SUNY schools because they are affordable and provide excellent education. I am going to major in Chemistry and was wondering which SUNY schools have very strong Chemistry/ science departments and encourage students to participate in research (I know most of that will be on me). Right now I like Binghamton University and Stony Brook University. Please provide suggestions!!
Stony Brook has a fantastic chemistry department. I go to University at Albany and was a chemistry major as transfer student. The only drawback I don’t like about UAlbany is that you need three physics courses instead of two for the major. Overall, it’s a small department and the chances of getting into research are 70/50 chances. I’m a biology major with chemistry and math minor.
I’m hoping to apply again as a transfer student to Stony Brook. If I don’t get in i will just stay at UAlbany

@NASA2014 Why do you think that Stony Brook has a good chemistry department? Just curious, I have heard a lot of good things about their department.
Fredonia is putting a lot of resources into the science department and gives scholarships. My son has friends in the biochem programs and says they are happy. He is not a science student.
