Which SUNY would be best?

Which SUNY would be best for a student with an 86 overall GPA (lots of range, from A's to a D+) and 1250 SAT score? Is Albany a stretch? Thanks!

I assume the SAT is for CR and M only? If so then you should have a good shot. http://www.albany.edu/ir/cds/cds_2008_09/freshman.htm</a> As far as which SUNY is best, it depends on what you’d like to study and what kind of campus you want. Can you elaborate on those points?

I think Albany is the worst of the SUNY universities. Geneseo is the best school in the SUNY system but it is a liberal arts colleges. If you want a university, Binghamton is best and Buffalo and Stony Brook are good. SUNY Environmental Science at Syracuse is also very good as are the SUNY contract colleges at Cornell.

i guess that depends on what youre looking for. for example… if youre looking to major in the sciences then i would recommend a school like buffalo or binghamton (especially with the 2020 project started at buffalo). for teaching Geneseo is a wonderful option but a stretch in regards to your GPA and SAT (its extremely competitive). when it comes to atmosophere i’ve heard that oswego has a very nice environment while some don’t like the split campus at buffalo. i looked at albany for a while too (i qualified for a lot of merit scholarships) but didn’t like how emotionally cold the campus was. there are lots of options out there but without knowing what major youre looking at or what environment you prefer its impossible to give solid advice outside of to do your research. good luck!

I think this chart should help answer some of your questions about Admissions Facts:

http://www.suny.edu/student/downloads/Pdf/2010_Admissions_qf_stateop.pdf</a></p>

Albany is not the “worst” university…as a matter of fact is has leading programs in nanotech, criminal justice, social welfare and political science and accounting. It home to the NYS Writers Institute and the Rockefeller School of Government, and Institute. It is in a city that is the third largest seat of government in the nation. The campus is an architecturally significant creation by Edward Durell Stone. Speakers this year have included Colin Powell, Mario Cuomo, Paul Krugman, Doris Kearns Goodwin. The administration and faculty are generally some of the nicest and most caring people I’ve ever encountered anywhere. I could go on…

I think all the SUNY schools are gems. Don’t give too much attention to rankings and talk about what school is best…or worst. The best school is the one that allows you to shine brightest…in otherwords, the best school is the best fit.

Good luck.

The SUNY schools vary greatly depending on department. What are your interests?
