which supplemental rec should I send in?

<p>I have 2 supplemental recommendations as of now, and that is all I'm planning on asking for. The first is from my debate coach, who I've known for 4 years, and he wrote one without me asking for it (he wrote one for everyone on the team). The letter talks about my intellectual ability, my debating skill, my leadership as a teammate, and my ability to work/get along with everyone as a person.</p>

<p>The second is from my club swimming coach, who I've known for 8 years. I haven't asked him yet, but will do so probably when I see him today. Since I was 9, we've seen each other pretty much everyday during practice, and he knows me very well and likes me a lot (I'm one of the team captains and one of his best swimmers).</p>

<p>I was wondering which supplemental recommendation I should send. My school GC allows one supplemental rec to each school we apply to. My Common App discusses swimming quite a bit, but debate is only an activity I mention in the "Activities" section of the application. My MIT application also discusses swimming, but in an essay that uses swimming only to show my personality. Debate is again mentioned, but not a big part of essays/application.</p>

<p>I can swim in all the schools I get into, but I am not being actively recruited by D1. At MIT, I am a recruit and on good terms with the coach there, but obviously this isn't a big deal. At Penn, the coach called me last summer and will flag me as an athlete he would want, but can't recruit. At Chicago, I've had limited to bare contact with the coach.</p>

<p>My counselor's advice is to send my club coach's rec to the schools that are interested in me as an athlete. This would mean MIT definitely, and maybe Penn (thoughts on this?). This would leave Chicago as a school where I'd send the rec from my debate coach.</p>

<p>What do you guys think? Disagree/Agree with GC's word on this? By the way, the information I wrote about my Common App applies to Penn and Chicago only (MIT isn't on CA). Thanks!</p>
