Hey everyone,
I don’t know which teachers I should ask for letters of recommendation mostly because I don’t know what I want to major in yet. I have multiple teachers which could give me great letters of recommendation from English/social studies departments. I’ve heard many top tier schools like when you have a math or science teacher write a letter, especially if you are majoring in math or science. I don’t have any math or science teachers that could give me much more than decent letters of recommendation. However, there is still a high chance I will major in math or science. Would it be really bad to get an English and History teacher to write my letters?
You’re going to need to see if the targets have expectations of one humanities and one math or sci. Your reach schools will want that, especially if you’re telling them of a poss math or sci major. They’d like that perspective.
You should get letters from teachers who know you best, and who can say something not just positive, but also personal about you – about your character, interests, accomplishments in class.
Remember, having a very good letter from a social science or English teacher is better than having a lukewarm letter from a math or science teacher.
