Which test should i go for?

Hello guys o/
I have been a long lurker out here, however, just only did I open an account.

So i am an international student and gave my Subject Tests in Nov. I got 670 each in Phys, Chem, Math II. Dec SAT 1 scores were out as well, I scored 790 in Maths, 610 in Writing, and ONLY 500 in Critical Reading. I don't know how it went so horribly wrong, but i used to score low 600s in my practice tests.

Now, there is one Jan test date left. So, i was wondering, should i nail the SAT Subject tests for a competitive sci-tech school like MIT? I do believe i can break the 750 mark in each of the three subjects. At the same time, I think that 500 is totally out of the equation while applying to MIT, so maybe should i focus on increasing my CR score?

I have good grades, and i feel that other parts of my application including my essays are great.

Definitely, my scores are no where near the 50% range of scores of MIT. But, my application approach is more of a holistic than numerical. And there are 32 applicants with CR scores below 600 who got accepted for the 2013 fall( taking that as a hope ).

So, do you guys suggest me to go for a great subject test score ( I definitely can go for the 2400) or do you think 670 on each phys, chem and math II is not so bad and that I should go for a better CR score?

Oh, and TOEFL iBT scores come in a week, which went a lot better. Will that be considered rather than my SAT scores?

Thanks a lot guys.

P.S. Seriously, that CR score needs improvement.

Here’s my take on this:

If you’re not a native English speaker, DO NOT send your SAT reasoning scores and just send your TOEFL scores. MIT is giving you the golden permission to only submit the TOEFL instead of SAT so why the hell won’t you use it?

Thanks for the quick reply Anna,
I really thought i would score a lot better on the SAT,especially, the CR section. So I decided to send them. I had already listed MIT as a score recipient for the SAT scores.
What else do you suggest?

Well, they SAY they would consider the test that makes you look best so if your TOEFL is good, they will only consider that and not the SAT.

Thanks Anna. Let’s see how the TOEFL scores come along.

Still, I would be grateful if you could suggest me the better combination.
Should I increase my CR score, or should i nail my SAT subject tests? Or, is 670 an okay score in Phys, Chem, Math II and that I should focus on increasing my CR score?
Thank you

If you are not a native speaker don’t worry about your CR score. Get your SAT II’s over a 700 to make your application competitive. Good luck!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, rothstem. I will try to better my subject test scores, and hope for a competitive TOEFL score.

hello, i’m in a similar situation, i got very low score on sat I (but 760 at maths), and i didn’t send it. i’ve done the toefl and automatically sent it(105) and done the subject tests and got 690 at maths(don’t know what happened) 750 in biology and 800 in physics, already sent.
is this all right or should i try to invest something in the subject tests(i already registered for the SAT I in january)

I think that you should send in your SAT I to show your 760 in Math. Then take your Math SAT II in January to try and bring that score up too, since you already paid to sit for an exam. Have your January scores sent automatically so they can arrive on time and let admissions know that they are on the way.
