Which Test Should I Retake ?!

here is a little back ground. although i've been in US for 4 yr, my english is still poor.. and somehow i am good at math and science, and aim for the top-tier engineering schools.

i took SAT1 twice and my best SAT comb is 1380 (760M and 620V)
SAT2-wise i got 800 on math2c, but only got 590 on SAT2 Writing(first time).
and i wonder which test i should retake on January. (i studied for SAT1 verbal. not for SAT1 Math or SAT2 Writing)

(kinda sure) i can get 800 on SAT1 Math. plus i might be able to ace a little on verbal. (=higher SAT1 score. perhaps mid-1400)

also i would be able to score somewhat higher on SAT2 writing.. (perhaps mid 600?!)

i have no idea what i should do. please help me out.
which one should i retake??
(very subjective and stupid question.. but) what scores(esp. english wise) are needed for top engineering schools?

any suggestion, advices would be helpful.
thx!

go with the 2s, i got your situation, i only had 600v but move on to the 2s!!!!!! sat IIs are important!! plus, your scores in 1 is good!!!! but 590 needs a little mroe work

bump !!!!!!!!

i mean, there isnt a big difference between 590 and 620 .. ?!

def. go with the sat 2 writing...

"wHY?" please :D

dude obviously u dont want to retake the writing, so just take the sat again if that's what u ant even though i dont recommend it.

i agree...you seem like you're really avoiding the sat 2 writing, so if you are okay with your score, then take the sat...i still say take the writing again, because a 620 verbal is still in the 80th percentile, or something, while a 590 is much lower...also, besides essays, colleges can use the writing as a basis upon which they can judge how well you will perform in writing intensive classes in college (or something to that effect)

dreaming,
do you need a science SAT II score? Do you have one already?

I'll suggest, try to get 800 for math, 650 (which is 30 increase) for your verbal, and total it with 1450. And you can always demonstrate how well you write in your college application essay....

If you've been in the US for four years, then your writing/verbal scores are of course excusable. I don't believe they're even required, because there's a what, five year time frame where you are eligible to take the TOEFL instead.

MIT, being a top engineering school I'm familiar with, requires three SAT II's - math, science, category of your choosing; but then again, there's your four year time period. They officially say that 680+ puts you in a good range for further review of the subjective part of your application (essays, recs, etc) although most people applying there get insane scores. Still the 680+ is for people that have been speaking english for most of their lives, not for someone who has been learning it and handling it for four years. Take the TOEFL. There is no way you are expected to be on a level playing field for the SAT verbal and writing if you've only known english for a few years.

oh. i TOTALLY dont mind taking writing again. dont get me wrong :)

i just wonder why you guys are recommending the writing over SAT1.

after all, i am not good at both(duh T_T) and i am willing to study for whichever i'll take. you all guys seem to suggest SAT2 writing, but i have no idea why. that's only reason i keep asking the reason behind it.

just give me some thought, i will be happy !!

EDIT : how do colleges(MIT for an instance) view the SAT1 verbal and the SAT2 writing?? (weight one more than another?)

does college care about percentile??

also. yes i already took SAT2 science(physics), and i got 760. should i retake/improve that??

bum.p for x-ma.s
