Which tests to take?

I'm a rising senior and I've never taken any SAT Subject Tests yet. I need to take 3 because some of the colleges I'm applying to require it, and I have to take them all in October because that's the only date that's at all feasible for me.

My senior year courses are Hon English Literature after 1800 (college dual enrollment), Intermediate Spanish 1 and 2 (college), International Relations (college), 1 or 2 other college classes for the second semester to be determined, AP Statistics, AP Latin, AP Environmental Science, and World History IV (contemporary). My best/favorite subject is history and I also like English and Latin, my favorite subject by far is government which obviously isn't an option :(

Anyway, I'm not sure if I'll know enough history for either subject test. I'm taking world/US history together over 4 years so I think I'll have gotten up to 1850-ish by October. Since I have an interest in history outside that I've done outside reading on more recent history and I can study up on more, but I'm worried it won't be enough to pass the tests. Plus, I'm not sure whether to take US or world history or both. I'm also nervous about literature; I've heard you don't need to have read specific books to pass the exam? If so then what is the test on? I know I wouldn't want to take a math or science exam; they're my worst subjects although I still get high grades and I test horribly in math. I'm pretty confident in everything else but... I'm homeschooled, so I've never been formally tested in most subjects at the high school level, I've just gotten parent grades and been evaluated by a certified teacher. I did get a 2170 on the SAT (Critical Reading was my best), a 4 on the AP English Language exam and a 5 on the US Government, and straight As in college honors courses, so I have a record, it's just I can't predict how high I'll score on any subject.

I guess what I'm trying to say in an annoying, rambly way is that I need 3, no math or science, Latin, literature, and history sound good (oh I've also taken Spanish). Thoughts?

Hmmm well US history sounds good for you in this case. You have a nice background on the way its government functions, and you have been studying for quite a while. Buy a couple of practice books and look at all the main points, etc. Memorize all the random facts that pop up as well, as this SAT is known for testing people on the randomest things.

For lit, buy Kaplan or PR. They’ll give you lots of practice problems, and also go online and familiarize yourself with how poems from hundreds of years ago were written and the meanings behind them.

What’re you majoring in? That’s pretty important in determining what tests to take.

A 670 in the SAT Math does not sound “horrible” to me. I am skeptical of avoiding all math and science subject tests.

@Aquawater98: I’m majoring in government/political science, which unfortunately there’s no Subject Test in.

@ADad: It’s not that bad a score, I guess. But it’s not my best, and I’m even worse in science. I feel like the purpose of the SAT Subject Tests is to highlight your strengths, and math and science aren’t my strongest areas.
