My student has taken both now and has the following scores:

SAT (Jan 2012)

R: 700
M: 760
R: 720

ACT (April 2012)

Composite: 31

E: 34
M:28
R: 36
S: 25
W: 10/12

She also got a 224 on the 2011 PSAT (R:74, M:74, W:76).

She's thinking that she'll report only SAT scores since ACT lower (math especially). Any thoughts? Will it hurt to report the ACT scores in light of her SAT (and PSAT) scores?

Thanks.

Correction:

Should be for SAT – R: 700; M: 760; W: 720

report SAT not ACT

Thanks. Any other thoughts? The ACT composite of 31 is around a 2100 SAT. My student didn’t study for the ACT and sees no need to retake it at this point, given the SAT and PSAT scores (should be a NMSF in VA). Looking at VA state schools (UVA, JMU, VA Tech) and a few out of state schools (NYU, UFlorida, UMiami, Eckerd). I think they all take the SAT, so ACT not needed.

SAT only. ACT corresponds to a mid-high 2000 SAT

I disagree with some of the previous assessments. I would report both. The SAT shows a high level of performance in math (which the ACT does not show). But the ACT english and reading (34/36) are much better than the 700/720 SAT. While the combination is not ideal, one test shows extremely high performance in math and the other shows extremely high performance in english/writing. While there’s no such thing as a cross-test super score, a smart college can read between the lines.

[SAT-ACT Conversion chart](http://teachers.sduhsd.k12.ca.us/lccounseling/sat-act_conversion_chart.htm)

31 = 2040.

May be take ACT again? Not sure why the math scores dont correlate. why is the science score so low?

Many schools want subject scores or only ACT. So you should check the school requirements as well as the requirements for the major.

I believe MIT cross super scores now.

Texaspg:

Can’t understand the discrepency in math. My student admittedly bombed the science part, not finishing it and getting bogged down in reading the problems. Took a prep course for the SAT but did nothing for the ACT. Doesn’t want to take the ACT again. Taking SAT IIs in June. All the schools thinking about accept SAT or ACT.

Mekozak:

I thought of that and reporting both, but I think we’ll stick to reporting the SAT only.

Thanks all!
