Hi there.
Most universities require a TOEFL test for non-native English speakers. However, I found out that there are currently three different TOEFL tests: the internet-, computer- and paper-based TOEFL. Which test should I take? Does it matter, do some universities only accept one certain kind of test?
Please answer as fast as possible

most, including me, opt for the computer based one...

So I am free to choose which one I'd like to take?
I think that for me, it is easier to take the internet-based test. There are more test dates for this version. Is this a problem?

The paper-based test is slowly being phased out. Most take the CBT. (Me, included.) I'm unsure how the Internet and Computer-based ones differs, but it's not a problem that there are many test dates for the Internet one compared to the CBT.

I took CBT before IBT came out, and you probably won't be able to take PBT, if you have option to take CBT or IBT. (I think only countries like China are still offering PBT, not sure though)

I would personally take CBT, because you have to write TWO essays and speak with a person if you take iBT. I think CBT is a lot less pain.

CBT has a lot of test dates as well. Over here, you can take the CBT any day except weekends and holidays. You'll have to register in advance though to make sure the date you want is available.

as a conclusion...all uf us(including me) advise you to take the CBT :)

Ah, damn.
I am living in Germany, and I think that I am obliged to do the iBT - what a pain.
In fact, I think my English is quite good, I don't see big problems in speaking.
However, MIT for example requires a minimum score of 90 (of 120). I just don't have an idea how difficult it is to reach that score. Does anyone have made experience. Please tell me about your scores on the CBT (or PBT) as well.
Thanks!

If you think your English is fluent enough, i don't think you need to fret about any versions of the TOEFL.

I got 290/300 on CBT with 6.0 on the essay with breakdown of 30 on listening, 29 on structure/writing and 28 on reading. My total score is the average of the three multiplied by 10.

I'm unsure how iBT marks you, though or even its format. The conversational part might be the fourth segment they test you on, if they retain the same three segments as CBT.

The essay prompt for me was "If your school was given a gift of money, what do you think would be the most significant way they could spend it" or something like that. Other people's were such as "Describe the way prons and cons of building a university in your communitY" or something to do about space travel/research and if it should be done now or if we should center our attn on the world. It's all very general, and doesn't require previous knowledge. It's the peas compared to the SAT essay. I had 30 minutes to TYPE it on a COMPUTER so I had a lot of time to plan and easier time to "format" it.

Listening was easy, except for possible attention wandering danger. :) Since they don't repeat conversations and only give you the questions AFTER the conversation has played out, it's a little hard to concentrate.

Reading was easy, too, though I didn't get full marks. For this part, if you have time at the end, you can go back through the "pages" and read through and change answers.

For structure, if I remember correctly, you CAN'T go back and change answers. Once you click "next" or whatever it was, you've committed your answer.

If you're able to download an example of the iBT from the ETS board, then do so. I did for the CBT and that helped with adjusting meself to the different format.

Oh, here's something else. I think part of the hefty fee is the mailing of a CD to your address with full-length sample tests on it. I think two? Anyway, I registered online for the CBT a week or two after the date and the CD arrived a few days AFTER the test so it was pointless and a waste of money. I wish I had known they would mail a CD to me with the tests on it! Unsure if this also pertains to the iBT, but if it does you might want to register for a test date a few weeks later, just to be sure you don't waste your money. :)

G'luck.
