Thanks!

Have Good Biology Undergrad Programs? Along with Philosophy? (Specifically Neurosci/Cog Sc)

Thanks!

UCSD is really good in Neurosciences

I know Cornell is pretty strong across the board for sciences...

Princeton and Brown come to mind. Also Yale and Carnegie Mellon

Colgate is pretty good in both neuroscience and philosophy.

Top 20 schools who made the cut for Biology (based on the Gourman Rankings) are:

MIT, Caltech, UC Berkeley, Northwestern, Harvard, Princeton, Cornell, and Penn.

To comment further on Penn, just because I go there and am familiar with it:

You can see more about the Penn major here
http://www.ircs.upenn.edu/education/ba-cogsci.shtml

and research opportunities for undergrads (there are a lot, as Penn is a huge research university and has the Hospital right on campus) here: http://psych.upenn.edu/~sschill/ra.html

Wherever you side to go, make sure there are ample research opportunities, as that's pretty much what you'll be doing with interests in Cog Sci.

Using Alexandre-style grouping for neuroscience,

Tier 1:
Columbia University
Harvard University
Johns Hopkins University
Stanford University
Yale University

Tier 2:
California Institute of Technology
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
UC Berkeley
University of Pennsylvania
Washington University in St. Louis

Tier 3:
Brandeis University
Case Western
Cornell University
Duke University
Northwestern University
UCLA
University of Chicago
University of Michigan

Tier 4:
Emory University
UNC Chapel Hill
University of Virginia
Vanderbilt University

For philosophy it depends on your interests (Classical vs. Continental, for example), but overall,

Tier 1:
Cornell University
Harvard University
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Princeton University
Stanford University
UC Berkeley
UCLA
University of Michigan

Tier 2:
Brown University
University of Chicago
UNC Chapel Hill

Tier 3:
Columbia University
Johns Hopkins University
Northwestern University
University of Pennsylvania

Cornell is FULL of research opportunities. Freshman can even participate in them and be published...

I would say you have some amazing choices out of those tho, wat are ur stats?

SAT: 800M770V690W (6/12, 760)
SAT2: Math2c:800 USH/BioE:790
GPA:3.96 CR: ~3/~400
EC: Above Average
Ethnicity:African/Asian American

African and Asian American?! + those stats? Dude definitely don't limit yourself if you were unsure. You can probably get in anywhere.

“Skeet daddy”????

What a hilariously inappropriate name…

skeet skeet skeet skeet!

What is USCD and what does it stand for?
I'm wanting to go into neurosciences to, so I want a really good school!!!

lmao wow poor UCSD no love from the general public.

It's the University of California San Diego.

Surprisingly little love here for NYU philosophy...

Thanks for the help here. Kinda college ignorant. Don't know much about them but want to go to them. If you're wondering, I'm a freshman in high school.

Well, UCSD and NYU aren't exactly "Top 20 Universities," sorry.

And if you are a freshmen in high school, I would say it's too early to think about colleges. Just get involved, get good grades, and enjoy high school.

It’s never too early to plan for your future! I suggest you get a feel for what you want in a college (overall) and go from there. While you shouldn’t be making any substantial decisions about college for a couple more years, it’s always good to get the ball rolling early.

definitely brown

My List as of Now is:
MIT, Brown (My that went there said theiy Philosophy Classes are unbelievable), Pton, Harvard, JHU, Wustl, HMC, and Gtech; if anyone is interested.

I have heard alot of amazing things about UCSD and biology, but I think I'd prefer -undergrad.- at least to go somewhere else =p

Also digressing here, does the fact that HMC has practically 0 African American students increase my chances?
