So i have two essays that I've written but for some schools, such as cornell, WashU, and Upenn, i can only pick one of them to use on the common application essay. Here are the two essays:

1) An event that changed me: I talk about my passion for cross country, my first race, my competitive personality, an event that made me realize to look beyond competition and helped improve my character. might be cliche because the event is losing a tight race with a competitor and what I learned.

2) an pretty personal essay about my autistic brother, what he's like, the responsibilities I've learned, what he's taught me (Hope), and what my dreams for the future are because of him.

(I also have a version of this where half the time I talk about my bro, the other half I talk about volunteering/the science courses, more of a general essay, not quite as personal, but if that appeals to these schools, please tell me)

Both these essays are well written and revised by my english teacher, but I'm not sure which one would appeal most to competitive schools.

Right now i'm leaning on essay #2 but i want to hear your opinions please! If you would like to read it, I'd gladly PM it to non 09ers.
