Having a really hard time with this prompt...

"Bowdoin is a liberal arts college that thrives on intellectual discourse in and out of the classroom. Students, faculty, and staff all participate in the exchange of ideas in an atmosphere characterized by high achievement and a sense of balance. The Admissions Committee is eager to learn more about you and your school community. Reflecting on your own educational experiences, how have you prepared yourself to enter an academic environment like Bowdoins?"

I've had two thoughts:
-Towards the beginning of high school, I didn't participate that much, but as time went on I've become more involved in class discussions/appreciated the value of the collaboration of opinions
-I've always been more of a history/english person, so I was almost scared out of taking AP physics - but I did, and ended up loving it/doing very well -> connecting this into balance and academic exploration (or the purpose of aliberal arts school in general)

For both, I'm not really sure if I'm even addressing the prompt right? :/
Which sounds better?
