So which transcripts do we send? The one we get after Junior year, or the first semester of Senior year? I'm a bit worried, considering how I haven't done as well in my Junior year than in my previous years. This is the year when my straight A streak was broken by a C in AP Chemistry, and possibly a B in AP Econ. Plus I haven't put in my community service hours in yet, so I' wondering how badly that would affect me if I don't put them in by the end of the semester and instead just put them in during my senior year. Thanks!

you send both.

When applying to all colleges that require a transcript you will have to send one through junior year (some do not require actual transcripts for deciding admission such as the UCs which instead require you to list grades on the app).

Whether you then have to also submit for the purpose of admission, after applying, a transcript for grades from first semester senior year depends: (a) many colleges, particularly a large number of public universities, make all decisons based on grades through junior year and do not want mid-year senior grades submitted: (b) many colleges have “rolling” admissions, meaning they make admission decisons as applications are received and for those you will not need to submit mid-year senior grades; (c) if you apply early action or early decision to a school and get a decision in December, you will usually not have to submit mid-year grades even if the school usually requires them for regular admission; (d) most colleges that make regular admission decisons in late March or early April require mid-senior year grades for the purpose of deciding admission.

Ultimately, you will have to submit your final high school transcript in June to the college to which you are accepted and in all cases the college reserves the right to withdraw your admission if that transcript shows bad senior year grades.
