This is so frustrating. I'm currently trying to get into my local community college. I guess I am considered a transferring student because I originally attended another University. I owe the previous university $7k and the community college that I am currently trying to enroll in won't accept me until they have my transcripts. Do I have to take out a personal loan to cover that debt so I can get my loans? Can I take out a Personal Student loan to cover that debt? I'm at my wits end. I'm just trying to get my life back on track.

Talk with your bank or credit union, and find out if it is possible for you to take out a personal loan for that amount. If you can’t, you will have to get a job (or two or three) and work so that you can pay off what you owe the first university. It really is that simple.

I guess I should have included that I am disabled and the reason that I am returning to school is to get retrained in a profession that meets my disability as I can not find one at the moment.

It is possible to get a private educational loan to cover the past debt. It is not something I like to recommend, but it is sometimes the only option for students who need to move forward. Check your own bank/credit union, and check [FinAid! Financial Aid, College Scholarships and Student Loans](http://www.finaid.org).
