I applied to the UC’s under molecular, cell, and developmental biology major, and i was wondering which UC will give me the best pre-med education. Please help me :)

well ucsd is highly regarded for biology and i heard competition is really stiff esp for premed....but i also heard good things about davis bio as well........then their is of cours ookla and berkely

well pre-med could be anything there really isnt a set Pre-Med guide jsut choose a science major and take the required courses for med school like lab o chem inorg. chem physics bio humanities

if a person attends undergraduate at UCLA, would it increase his or her chances of getting into UCLA's medical school?

depends if they do ok to pretty well then yes but if they get bad grades then no.

It's just as hard to go into UCLA's grad school if you're fresh from UCLA undergrad. Schools are known to not like accepting their own undergrads...

kinda and kinda not Bubbles isnt 100% right

I'd say UCSD is much better for pre-med IMO

i remember hearing one of the admissions counselors from UCLA say that it doesnt matter if you go there for undergrad, you still have the same exact chance of getting accepted into their med school as someone who went to a different college for undergrad.

UCLA Med SCHool is ranked #14 in nation

UC San Francisco Med School (grad school) is ranked #4

but UCSF is way too competitive

they accept 10% of their applicants each year

all med schools (at least the ones in CA) accept less than 10% of the applicants. UCSF only accepts 6%. the easiest one to get into is USC, they accept 8% of the applicants and they have the lowest MCAT scores. that's why I don't understand why anyone would want to be a physician just for the money. it's a tough road. Anyway, I'm sure biology at UCSD is really good. UCI is good too.

the best one is the one where you feel most comfortable. If you go to a place where you're not comfortable and you're out of your element... well, things fall apart. Life happens. Go where you feel the environment best suits you.

So, if I'm a Biology major and get into UCLA and UCB, which one should I pick? The thing is, my parents want me to stay close to home because I have a minor disability. I have been admitted to UCLA and am awaiting Berkeley's decision. If I get into both, which one should I attend, in other words, which is better for pre-med and will increase my chances of getting into a top med-school?

I don't think it would matter if you pick UCB or you pick UCLA. Just pick the one where you will feel the most comfortable. The things that will increase your chances is getting good grades and getting a good score on the MCAT.

Does UC-Berkeley have pre-med?

premed just means that you intend to take the requisites needed for med school. it's not a real major. you can take the requisites at any school

I think he's wondering a lot about stiff competition and difficulty in getting good grades. Since grades are so important in med school admissions, going to a super-competitive place like Berkeley would be tough. They say UCLA is probably better than Berkeley in Bio. I don't know how it or the other UC's compare to Berkeley, though. Anyone?

The bio dept. at Berkeley isnt very strong. UCSD's would be the best, followed by UCLA and Berkeley. Bio is one of Berkeley's weak areas. They are, however, superb in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, and Mathematics.

I have a great interest in Physics. Should I major in Phyiscs at Berkeley (if I get in) and then go to med-school, or should I stick to Biology and go to UCLA? Does being a Biology major increase your chances of getting into a top med-school?

Biology doesn't increase your chances. Med schools want diversity. Definitely major in physics if you think you'll do better in it, rather than in biology. You can even major in music and get into med school. Pick something you like.
