Which UC is best for which subject?

can anyone tell me what types of subjects each UC is strongest in?

like if UCI were best in science or UCLA is best in medical and UCSD is best in law or something

Berkeley - Engineering
UCLA - Art/Film/etc. (no serious subjects in particular)
San Diego - Biological Sciences + sciences pertaining to the ocean
Santa Barbara - College of Creative Studies, Humanities
Davis - Agriculture

I’m not that familiar with the rest of the UCs. Whatever they’re good at, they’re not really all that good at it. BTW, I was rating each university’s strongest undergraduate program so graduate programs such as “medical” and “law” are not relevant. -.-

Typical Sentiment…

UCLA and Cal are reknowned for anything pre-professional in the subjects of medicine, law, business.

Just about all are good in premed (add San Diego, Irvine, Davis, Riverside) and to some degree prelaw (but UCLA and Cal for are by far best at this).

Theatre: UCLA, Irvine.

Creative Writing: Irvine

Film: UCLA, Santa Barbara?

Vet: Davis

Pharmacy: Pre-major: Probably Irvine, San Diego. Only Pharm school is a UCSF though.

Environmental: Probably Cal, a lot have good majors in this though.

COmm Studies: UCLA,

Oceanography: Probably UCSD

^I think the OP wanted the subject each UC was strongest in, not the UCs that are strongest in each subject. If it were the latter, practically every category would be Berkeley.

because no UC would forward, “UC Irvine’s best feet(s) forward is…”

I purposely listed some off-beat things to hopefully offer lesser known facts, not nec to conform.

Irvine is a beast in the world of non-fiction writing. It may well be its best subject, along with being a great premed university.

Undoubtedly Cal is o/s in a lot of things.

Add UCSB for marine biology/oceanography.

… in the world of fiction writing.

Actually, UC Berkeley is the best for almost everything – all majors, most especially computer science, mathematics, economics, business and all majors in engineering.

The strongest program at UCLA that I have heard of is business economics. At UCSD its biomed or bio sciences. UCSB - party! LOL … UCSB - engineering and programs about oceanography or anything of that sort.

UCSB has outstanding chemical engineering and physics programs.

Ouch! Sentiment, aren’t you a 'ruin? Way to stick up for your school…

It might be best to take a look at the NRC rankings… sometimes a school is great at a subject you wouldn’t have thought of… for example, UC Santa Barbara is top 3 in Chemical Engineering (better than any other UC), top 5 in Computer and Electrical Engineering, #1 in Materials Science Engineering, top 5 in Oceanography, Top 10 in Theater, top 10 in Physics, etc. I don’t think many of us here on CC would have know any of those except for perhaps Oceanography.
