I posted this on the state forum and couldn't get an answer, hoping you can help me out.

Just wanted to get your opinion on which school would be the best choice for me. I have been accepted to UCR, Cal Poly Pomona, Fullerton, and still waiting for UCI.

I applied with a Criminology degree for the UC's and Business Admin. degrees for the Cal states. If I were to go to CPP I would want to switch my major to Computer Engineering since their engineering program seems to be well known.

My main goal is to become a detective eventually I have always striven for this and it's one of the only things that gives me passion.

I live very close to CPP and about 20 minutes drive away from Fullerton. UCI and UCR are about 40 miles away and I would have to commute to any school I go to.

What do you think my best options are? I personally think my best interest would have me either going to Pomona and working as a Police Cadet to get a head start and work part time, or go to UCI since it's a great school.

if you goal is to become a detective, why are you pursuing a degree in CS at CPP. your reasoning doesn’t make sense to me. if i got accepted at UCD, should I switch my major to animal science since UCD is known for this program?

It was just a thought. I could go into law enforcement with just about any degree, so why not get a degree that I could use elsewhere if I decided to drift away from Law enforcement?

Agree with the question about the different majors. Your best bet is to talk to some detectives and let them tell you what route they took. I would imagine there’s many paths to being a detective.

Since you live conveniently close to CPP, then is there a major there that would work well with law enforcement?

If not, then Fullerton would be a good choice…However, commuting to Fullerton would be awful since those freeways are busy, busy, busy during the rush hours that you’d likely be driving. you say it’s a 20 minute drive, but at what time of the day? You say that you live very near CPP, that suggests more than a 20 minute drive during traffic times.

Would your aid include enough for housing or would you commute? (oops, just saw that you have to commute…then UCI is definitely out…way too much traffic).

Look thru CPPs majors and find something that would work well.
