Which UCs would I have a chance at?

Out of all the UCs, which ones would I have a good chance at? Which would be my safe schools?

I feel really discouraged because there's really nothing special to me, so I feel like the only one I'll get into is UCR. (Not that UCR is bad, but it's literally only 10 minutes away from my house and I was picturing my college to be farther if you know what I mean.)

I'm completely average, I even scored the exact average on the SAT test. (1540). I might retake it, but I need to see how I'll do on the ACT this weekend first. (Let's estimate for now and say I'll get at least a 24/25)

By the end of this year, I would have taken 6 AP classes.

Every year in high school, I've taken at least 3 AP/honors classes a year.

My weighted GPA isn't too good, it's at a 3.8. (But since UCs don't even see my senior grades on the application, there's no way it's going up.)

Unweighted GPA is 3.4.

Cal Grant is 3.3. (It's lower than I thought)

I've been in 5-6 clubs in total, adding up to around 80 hours of community service.

Thinking about majoring in engineering.

And also, which Cal states should I apply to? I'm thinking about the Cal Polys, but I know that SLO will probably be a long shot.

Thinking about my actual chances to these schools honestly makes me depressed because I've always aimed for these UCs since I was little.

I'm not planning on applying anywhere out of state since I originally live in CA

@Ohhibye‌: Have you calculated your UC/CSU GPA yet?? <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;
Your GPA is good but your SAT is very low of Engineering. UCR/UCM would be a Match. UCSC would be a High Match. Other than wanting to go to a UC since you were little, is the any other reason you need to go to a UC??? Are you and your family able to afford $30K or are you in need of FA?? UCR can be very generous with FA.

There are many other schools in California where you can get a very good education. SLO will be a reach and so will all the other UC’s unless you can get that ACT up to at least a 30 or higher. Engineering is one of the most competitive majors for all the UC’s and also the Cal States.

Some good Cal States to apply to are SDSU/CSUF/CSULB/SJSU/CPP. You can get a great education at any of these Cal States with a cheaper price tag. There are also private schools such as Occidental, University of Pacific, University of Redlands, University of San Diego that you could consider. You have some very good options besides the UC’s, so focus on the schools you can get into and do well on your ACT. Make a realistic list of schools to apply, including 2 safeties (that really like and can afford), some Matches and then a few reaches (UC’s).
Good Luck.
