Which UK/Australia/NZ Universities are Reputable For Their IT Undergraduate Course?

Hi all, does anyone here know which few UK/Australia/New Zealand universities that are reputable for their IT undergraduate courses? As i'm considering doing a IT degree. And anyone know what's the different between Information System and Computer Science degree? As i notice some universities are offering these two kind. Thanks.

I think Monash University, the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) are probably a few to have a look at in Australia.

As for the UK, Imperial College is very good with sciences and engineering, and so might be good with computers.

I heard somewhere that Monash was awful. A lot of money loving burocrats or something along the lines of that.

The one in my city, Queensland University of Technology is average I guess. You should come for the weather, but. :)

yah imperial college is one of the cutting edge ones in the UK... especially in AI research...

What about University of Glasgow, University of Edinburgh and Australian National University? Are they good in the field?

As for ANU, it's a heavily research-orientated university, so if that is your thing they may suit. ANU is mainly renowned for its social sciences (law, politics, history, etc.) rather than sciences, but is very good at most things.

Thanks everyone for your information/advice.

Currently i'm considering the following universities:
UK: Imperial College, University of Glasgow, University of Edinburgh
Australia: University of Melbourne, ANU, University of Sydney and maybe UNSW (if they didn't set up a campus in Singapore)
New Zealand: University of Auckland

I'm wondering is it possible to apply to all these universities and then select the eventual university i want to go?

Programmer88, Are you from Singapore? Do people want to go to UNSW or do they still prefer NUS/NTU ?

Yes, I'm from Singapore. Well, from what i know, some would like to attend UNSW Asia since they don't have to fly over to Sydney for their degree, hence saving the living costs over there. I think it varies between different people, some just prefer the local education, while some prefer the overseas. But i will choose NUS/NTU or SMU (the only university in S'pore that requires interview) over UNSW Asia, if i decide to study in S'pore rather than overseas.

According to Wikipedia:
UNSW Asia aims to establish a high international profile by allocating at least 70% of its intake to non-Singaporeans.

hmm yeah i think i would prefer NUS/NTU/SMU too - especially because satellite campuses take time to establish themselves and some lose prestige.

I think UTS would be the best bet in Sydney for an IT degree...It just doesn't really have much of a Campus life, it is more for people who want to go to school then work.

Is UGlasgow hard to get into from the Sorbonne, with 180 ECTS for the last year of an econ. degree, and say, a 3.5GPA?

zules01, are you seeking for a master degree/PhD at Glasgow?

Programmer 88, Have u seen the Temporary campus of UNSWASIA ? is it good ? how are the facilities?

No, a bachelor. I'd like to spend my senior year there.

waleedk87, the temporary campus of UNSW Asia is on the Republic Polytechnic old campus, it's situated near Orchard Road, a central area of S'pore, so if you prefer convenient for eating and shopping, it would be a good location. I have yet to see the campus, as i didn't choose Republic Polytechnic as one of my top choice after my O Levels back then. However from UNSW Asia website, the Changi campus will be a very beautiful one. If i'm not wrong, it opens in 2008? Btw, waleedk87, where are you from?

Thanks a lot programmer. . im from Pakistan ... I'm appearing for my exams this nov and i was thinking of applying to UNSWAsia for the spring semester.. but i think i should wait and evaluate all my options ..

Anybody heard before of University of London external degree? Is it good and recognised? And what about the recognition of King's College London in IT fields.

waleedk87, i guess you are currently doing your A Levels? What are the major you are deciding? IT too?

im actually undecided.. but definately something in engineering or IT . Yes I am doing my a levels ..exams start monday :( ..
And about the university of london degree... yes it is VERY recognised ... especially their Law programme. .. we have it here in Pakistan people who arent that brilliant get into Harvard, Columbia , Yale for their LLM's . and i also know someone who had bsc. management info system or something and got into wharton .. BUT ... keep in mind that u will lose out on the whole college environment and study methods.. it will be like a levels all over again with the same type of teaching techiniques (very exam oriented) and little scope for presentations, projects, papers etc.
