Which Universities in States are you Canadians applying to ?

^No, but I’m a dual citizen, so don’t mind me.

^ Wow jealous.

BTW, Dartmouth brought back loans, JUST for us 15’ers

@americanschools,

I haven’t looked into the financial side of things too deeply yet, although my parents are aware of the high costs. My dad calculated our financial aid package on the Stanford website, and we are assuming that it is a similar plan for the ivies. I will have to look into the specifics of it all, but for right now I am just concentrating on how I am going to get accepted. We will look into financial aid when the time comes to apply to it. My philosophy: you don’t get into Harvard and not go because of financial reasons. If it is something that you really want then you find a way! I am very lucky, because my dad studied at Cambridge in the uk on full scholarship, making it so that he had nothing to worry about but his learning. As a result, he believes that money is a secondary factor and he is willing to allow me to get a great education, even if it costs a little more than Canadian schools. That being said, he was a little hesitant before we used the financial aid calculator. haha, $55 000 a year? That is just way too much money.

Oh ya! I almost forgot, I am applying to some schools in the UK as well. I originally wanted to go to Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College etc. (can you imagine studying science there? ugh I want to cry just thinking about it). But last summer I emailed an admissions officer at Cambridge explaining my courses and stuff, and she politely told me not to bother. Apparently I would need at least 3 AP classes or the IB program to even be considered there. A Canadian high school diploma is not enough, and sadly no school in my city offers more than one AP. It took me a while to get over the fact that Cambridge would never happen. Haha its a bit unfair for us canadians, but oh well. So instead I am probably applying to the University of Bristol, and perhaps the University of York. Oh jeez, I have to look into that as well! Typing all of this makes me realize that I better get my act together! Time to make a substantial plan!

Yea i guess you are right. I should start studying and trying to get in, rather than worry about money. i know with my fam income, I will receive financial aid for sure well coz i have another sibling in american uni already so we are kinda under the stress!! anyhow guys study! and Dartmouth not only gives loans but now also some financial aid :)

AHHH I just received my prospectus and Harvard application in the mail! I am so excited!

why arent you doing it online ?

americanschools I’m from Ontario as well =]. Toronto…

Same! I know it doesn’t mean much, but my heart still jumped a little when I saw the Harvard crest :)

Wow fatum! I am from GTA too !! woot woot! whats your naitionality ?

No i meant where he was born because i was born in india and came to Canada 6 years ago. i am a Canadian citizen now.

I’m Chinese~ I’m not even a Canadian citizen lol.

AND YEAH I got the Harvard thing too LOL. Everytime I get something from an university…I get excited LOL.

I think my point about applying to multiple schools to increase your chances of getting in is a valid one.

My credentials are average or above average for all the schools I’m applying to, which means I have a chance at all of them. So by applying to many different schools where my credentials are as good as or better than that of other applicants; it is likely that at least ONE of the admin officers will see me as a good applicant and put me in.

What happened to my post? :s

Any other Canadians living overseas here? :)

Oh, and are any of you writing any October tests?

^^ i dont get it. Why are you guys getting stuff from harvard ? Are you not submitting your applications online for harvard ?

^ It’s just meant to entice applicants, bring them towards Harvard. A lot of kids at my school got mail from schools like Yale but VERY few of them actually got in haha.

@Nosike, yea, I completely agree with you. I saw your stats and stuff and you are definitely in contention for those schools. I was just trying to say if someone had like 1900 then the chances at each school is probably 0, so applying to more wouldn’t really increase chances.

Oh, and everyone, go on the CCCanada chat! I’m on it right now.

Enjoy!

thats not cool lol i never got one from harvard to entice me haha

don’t worry, all that mail from schools doesn’t mean much, and I will indeed be applying online. I just like looking at the booklets, it gives me a bit of a feel for each school and helps me distinguish between them. Plus, it’s nice to actually have some information on paper instead of looking at a screen.

i ordered some! long time ago maybe june ish. never got any :(

Sign up on their websites under the ‘request more information’ tab or whatever and they’ll send you a prospectus. It’ll make no difference to your admission chances though. :)
