I've been accepted in both University at Buffalo (UB) and Binghamton University (BU). I've been accepted as a general student in both universities and I was wondering in which one will it be more competitive to get into for engineering after my first year. I've heard that UB has got one of the best Engineering schools in the USA and it is rather difficult to get into but I wanted to know if I have the chance of getting in the School of Engineering. I've got a math SAT score of 580 out of 800 and they required a minimum score of 600 to admit a student directly in the school of engineering.

Why do you want engineering?

Because I want to study mechanical engineering.

Do you have any experience with engineering? It is generally the hardest major of all, with the highest dropout rate since most have no idea what they’re getting into. How are you at calculus, physics, and other advanced math/science courses? A 580 math is not a strong indicator of success as an engineering major, which is why you were not direct admit to engineering. They want you to prove you have the goods to succeed (high grades in those prerequisites) before throwing you into the fire. That said, neither one of those schools will be easier than the other to transfer into engineering. Both will have equally difficult freshman classes, but get the grades, and you’ll get in at either one.
