Which University is most similar to HOGWARTS?

You've read the books and watched the movies. Now...

...which University is most similar to HOGWARTS, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?

(My vote goes to Brown, because it has Hermione Granger. Yale comes close, though.)

I’m biased b/c I go there, but Yale is pretty pretty darn close. The res. colleges are like Hogwarts houses; there are different res. college “cups” that go the college that wins, the one w/ highest GPA, etc; the colleges are very gothic and extravagant; students are “sorted” and the colleges are all 4 years; etc etc…

Oxbridge are probably fairly close though. I really like Brown and Brown may have Hermione Granger, but it is not like Hogwarts very much at all… no offense…

There’s already a thread kinda like this: University of Chicago like Hogwarts?

quote

Brown does not have Hermione Granger.
It just doesn’t. I find it unfathomable as to why you would even post such a blasphemous statement.

Wouldn’t this automatically go to a university in the UK, though? Wasn’t Oxford used for the dining halls? (Although, Annenberg in Harvard is supposed to be spectacular.) And they filmed HP entirely in the UK, if I’m correct…

guys, guys, the hermione granger comment was just a joke, I’m kidding, relax…

Yeah, I guess you can’t really tell the tone of the voice from the computer screen. I got it.

Although, the 5th movie had such little accuracy, I’m boycotting the rest of them. :')

I sincerely hope prospective students aren’t using this as a criterion for selecting colleges! :)

Are you kidding? Cambridge or Oxford, of course. Hogwarts is modeled after Cambridge and Oxford. Oxbridge have the old buildings (not the fake “old” buildings of the Ivies --which were, we must admit, built to try to replicate Oxbridge). Plus, they have the different colleges as represented by Hogwart’s 4 houses. The large dining halls, the robes, the coats of arms for the various houses, etc.

This really should be obvious.

No ****. We’re talking about American universities.

It has 270 posts. Everything that can be said on the subject has been said.

You guys will never have sex with a real girl if you keep thinking about such nonsense. Get a life.

^ relax bro

besides, look who’s talking. i’m not the one with 10,000 posts…

Married. …

This discussion just annoys me because it isn’t a matter of opinion. It is a fact that Oxford/Cambridge is what Hogwarts is modeled after.

I completely agree orangelogic. Parts of Hogwarts ARE Oxford for goodness sake. I’m partial to Cambridge, however, so I’ll leave with this…

the end.

For those of you claiming that Oxbridge is the unequivocal answer, keep in mind that Hogwarts would be more comparable to a high school/grammar school than a university :stuck_out_tongue: Also, in terms of the size of the student body, the schools on the list I provided are MUCH more similar to Hogwarts than either Cambridge or Oxford.

Pray tell, evertheoptimist, what IS the size of the student body at Hogwarts?

About 600 of course :P

VastlyOverated, I agree…Cambridge is amazing. Truly amazing! Walking around those authentic old buildings is an experience that is difficult to describe. You have either been there and seen it or you haven’t plain and simple.

uchicago, hands down
